MPI Research Announces Key Positions
2008-02-01

MATTAWAN, MI February 2008: MPI Research recently announced two key appointments. Zheng Jim Wang, PhD, is the Director of Molecular Imaging and Stefano F. Liparoto, PhD, is the Director of Immunology, and will head the company's Immunoassay and Immunotoxicology area. As experts in their fields, the addition of Dr. Wang and Dr. Liparoto will expand the capabilities of MPI Research in these areas that are increasingly important to the drug discovery development programs of its Sponsors.

As Director of Molecular Imaging, Dr. Wang will consult with Sponsors to demonstrate the application of micro-PET and micro-CT for animal models of disease, as well as the distribution and efficacy of drugs in development. Dr. Wang is widely published and has over 17 years of academia and industry experience. He received his PhD from Texas A&M University and completed his postdoctoral work at Purdue University. In addition to his extensive knowledge of molecular imaging, Dr. Wang has expertise in chemistry, radiochemistry, radiopharmaceuticals, and nuclear medicine.

"We are extremely pleased to announce Dr. Wang's new position within our company. Dr. Wang joins us with a unique background, having both extensive experience in academia and knowledge of the industry,” said Tina Rogers, PhD, MBA, DABT, Associate Director of Research at MPI Research. “With Dr. Wang leading our molecular imaging efforts, we will have the ability to offer wide-ranging molecular imaging services to our current and future Sponsors."

As Director of Immunology, Dr. Liparoto will be responsible for expanding both immunotoxicology and immunoassay services at MPI Research. Dr. Liparoto's expertise in protein chemistry and experience in the development of biopharmaceuticals will provide Sponsors of MPI Research with significant advantages. Formerly Principal Scientist at PPD, Inc., Dr. Liparoto received his PhD from Dartmouth College and completed his postdoctoral work at the University of Michigan. Dr. Liparoto is active in numerous professional associations and has received high honors for his scientific research.

John T. Farmer, PhD will join Dr. Liparoto as a Study Director in the Immunology Department at MPI Research. Dr. Farmer received his PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a concentration in cellular and molecular physiology. Formerly at Southern Research Institute, Dr. Farmer has experience in the oversight and coordination of commercial toxicology and immunology studies in compliance with federal Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.

"It is beneficial to our Sponsors to have both Dr. Liparoto and Dr. Farmer join the immunology team at MPI Research. Both specialists are highly knowledgeable in their fields," said Tina Rogers. "This further allows MPI Research the opportunity to provide Sponsors with an extensive range of quality preclinical drug development services."
