MPI Research’s Surgery Program Receives Powerful Vote of Confidence from Leading Porcine Surgeon!

In order to remain at the highest level of quality in all of our research programs, MPI Research periodically contracts with outside experts to evaluate our testing program methods. As part of this effort, MPI Research retained a renowned porcine surgery expert to evaluate our swine husbandry, perioperative, and anesthetic procedures.

MPI Research conducts surgical procedures on swine in support of cardiac stent evaluations, angiogenesis, anti-angiogenesis, adhesion and wound healing models, and other programs. In addition, MPI Research also conducts many types of toxicology studies in swine models annually via multiple routes of administration, including dermal and infusion. In the desire to constantly evaluate and improve services offered to sponsors, respected experts brought in are engaged to give objective feedback on our different areas of scientific operations.

The expert, who performs hundreds of surgical procedures in porcine models annually, spent a day evaluating the swine surgery program at MPI Research and had the following comments, “The Facility and technical staff (of MPI Research) were of high quality.” He also went on to comment, “The technical and veterinary staff that I observed were very motivated and demonstrated a high level of technical expertise. I have visited other contract laboratories and would place the staff performance at MPI Research in the highest tier of the laboratories I have observed in North America and Europe.” “In general, MPI Research performs an outstanding surgical service for porcine projects.”

Dr. James Laveglia, Executive Vice President and Director Research for MPI Research commented, “We could not be happier with the validation of our porcine surgery program. Suggestions for improvements were offered, which we are actively implementing as part of our continuous improvement strive-for-perfection campaign at MPI Research. Our swine surgical program began several years ago at the request of our sponsors. Much of the credit for our success in this area goes to our clients, whose suggestions and requests served as the foundation for what now constitutes a significant component of our overall business. Current predications are projects involving swine shall continue to increase causing canine and primate projects to decrease. This is due to rulings by the FDA and emphasis the National Institutes of Health has placed on developing porcine models to replace other large animals.”

MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive non-clinical research that meets the requirements of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal health and chemical companies as well as governmental agencies as we partner together to bring safer, healthier products to the world. MPI Research employees specialize in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism, pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive and developmental biology, veterinary science, neuroscience, experimental therapeutics, immunotoxicology, analytical chemistry, computer science, regulatory science, and statistics.
