MPI RESEARCH raises the bar again! Dr. David Gauvin joins the Safety Pharmacology team!

MPI Research is pleased to announce that Dr. David Gauvin is the newest Senior Study Director in Safety Pharmacology. Prior to arriving at MPI, Dr. Gauvin served as a Drug Science Officer at the Drug Enforcement Administration in Washington, D.C. In his position at DEA, Dr. Gauvin regularly provided scientific background, briefings and advised a number of federal agencies involved in national and international drug control policy. Previously, Dr. Gauvin conducted drug abuse-related research for 11 years as a Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His research has spanned a diverse range of topics in psychopharmacology, and he has published over 100 research articles, book chapters, and abstracts on topics related to the preclinical screening of drugs of abuse.

Dr. Gauvin received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1982, and his Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in psychopharmacology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1986 and 1987, respectively. He completed a three-year NIAAA funded post-doctoral training fellowship in psychopharmacology at the University of Oklahoma prior to his faculty appointment there. Dr. Gauvin won numerous research and teaching awards while at the University of Oklahoma. In 2002, he received one of law enforcement’s highest honors, the DEA’s Administrator’s Award, for his work on the regulatory control of marijuana.

His specialized experience will provide leadership to our Safety Pharmacology team as well as offer guidance to our Sponsors on their research programs.”
