MPI Research Invites
You to Attend Three Important Breakfast
Seminars at the 44th Annual Meeting
of the Society of Toxicology, March
7th, 8th, and 9th in New Orleans, LA!

MPI Research is proud
to participate in the 44th annual meeting
of the Society of Toxicology March 6-10,
2005 in New Orleans, LA. In recognition
of the opportunity for continuing education
that the SOT provides its members, we are
pleased to provide three stimulating breakfast
discussions during this year’s meeting. MPI Research is
honored to have three leading experts in
their fields offer valuable insight and expertise
on topics that are critical issues in today’s
efforts to bring safe and effective therapeutics
and medical devices to the marketplace.
Monday, March 7th from 7-8 a.m. at the Hilton
Riverside Grand Salon 13/16, Craig January,
M.D. will chair a stimulating discussion
on the clinical issue of drug-induced QT
prolongation. Dr. January, a pioneer in the
field of cell-drug ion channel interactions,
is recognized as a global leader in this
area of research. Recent headlines regarding
market withdrawal of leading drugs illustrate
the importance of early screening of drug
candidates for this phenomenon. Dr. January
is a Professor of Medicine and Physiology
at the University of Wisconsin. As a clinician-scientist,
he examines the molecular basis for the interactions
of pharmaceuticals with the hERG potassium
channel.
Tuesday, March 8th from 7-8 a.m. at the Hilton
Riverside Grand Salon 3/6, M.J. Waxdal, Ph.D.
will present his thoughts on the use of flow
cytometry in the preclinical testing of both
large and small molecules. New drug candidates
can have significant impact on the immune
system; Dr. Waxdal will present a thought
provoking perspective on the use of flow
cytometry in the evaluation of new therapeutics
in both human and animal models. Dr. Waxdal
is the Founder and President of FAST Systems,
a Licensed Clinical Reference Laboratory
specializing in the application of immunological
and flow cytometry procedures to biological,
biotech and medical entities. With 3+ decades
of experience, Dr. Waxdal is internationally
recognized for his work in this field.
Wednesday, March 9th from 7-8 a.m. at the
Hilton Riverside Grand Salon 3/6, J. Paul
Shea, Ph.D. will outline the use of exciting
imaging technologies, such as Positron Emission
Tomography (PET), CT and MRI in the support
of drug discovery and development. These
technologies, important tools in the clinical
arena, offer important advances in the preclinical
development of new therapies. Dr. Shea will
share his perspective on the potential and
current preclinical uses of these imaging
systems. With extensive experience in academia
and the private sector, Dr. Shea is a leading
expert in drug development and molecular
imaging. His company, Luminare Molecular,
LLC, provides molecular imaging services
to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
Dr. Shea will also be demonstrating daily
the use of PET in animal models during the
ToxExpo in the MPI Research booth, #415.
Dr. James Laveglia, Executive Vice President
and Director of Research for MPI Research,
commented, “Last year we hosted our
first breakfast seminar with Dr. January,
which was very well received and attended.
This year we are pleased to provide three
seminars and expand the topics to include
immunology and molecular imaging evaluations
in preclinical programs. Please join us each
day for what we know will be very informative
sessions on these important topics.”
