Service Offerings for Experimental
Therapeutics! |
As other CROs strive to become the biggest
providers of research services, MPI Research
is working to expand our position as the
best, and most responsive, preclinical service
provider. MPI Research created the department
of Experimental Therapeutics three years
ago in response to sponsor requests for help
with in vivo proof of concept and efficacy
studies. The group continues to grow, driven
by partnerships with clients to develop models
to meet their specific needs. The new models
developed recently support multiple therapeutic
areas including; oncology, infectious disease,
gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cell
based therapies.
2004 has seen a diverse variety of models
developed, such as:
Oncology
• Xenograft pancreatic tumor models in nude mice
• Stereotactic implanted brain tumors in rats
• Chemotherapy induced anemia model in mice
Anti-infectives
• LD50 and ED50 bacteremia models in mice utilizing several strains of
staphylococcus
• Chinchilla otitis media model (Haemophilus and Pneumococcus sp.) under
development
Cardiovascular and gastrointestinal drug
efficacy
• Atherosclerotic models in Watanabe rabbits
• DSS induced colitis in mice
Kate Lane Ph.D., Director of Experimental
Therapeutics for MPI Research commented, “MPI
Research developed the xenograft tumor models
in response to a single sponsor’s request.
From this single model grew the current Experimental
Therapeutics Department. The new models added
this year are a testament to our desire to
aid our sponsors’ efforts in developing
new therapies to treat a wide variety of
diseases. If models do not exist to meet
current needs, we are able and willing to
partner with our customers to develop appropriate
models. We are extremely privileged to have
assembled such a diverse and talented team,
allowing us to address a broad range of needs
for our sponsors.”
MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive
preclinical research that meets the requirements
of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal
health and chemical companies as well as
governmental agencies as we partner together
to bring safer, healthier products to the
world. MPI Research employees specialize
in a wide variety of scientific disciplines
including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism,
pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive
and developmental biology, veterinary science,
neuroscience, experimental therapeutics,
immunotoxicology, analytical chemistry, computer
science, regulatory science, and statistics.
