| MPI Research Establishes
Primate and Canine Colonies for Pharmacokinetic
and Toxicology Studies! |
MPI Research has established a strong reputation
as one of the most responsive preclinical
CRO’s in the industry, especially within
the small pharmaceutical and biotech arena.
As part of a program seeking to improve services
for this important group of Sponsors, MPI
Research recently established non-naïve
colonies of canines and primates to support
individual pharmacokinetic screening studies.
MPI Research has maintained a significant
naïve primate colony allowing for rapid
initiation of toxicology evaluations. Having
acclimated primates available reduces the
pre-study time by seven weeks, supporting
the MPI Research philosophy of having rapid
study initiations to aid Sponsors in reducing
product time to market.
MPI Research has maintained Sponsor owned
canine and primate colonies for many years.
These colonies have supported high throughput in
vivo drug candidate screening programs
for both large and small pharmaceutical Sponsors
needing to perform dozens to hundreds of
pharmacokinetic studies annually. Acknowledging
that many smaller companies do not have the
need for a large volume of studies but still
need rapid starts at reasonable costs, MPI
Research established the new colonies of
canines and primates. Now pharmacokinetic
studies can be performed on an individual
basis faster and at much lower costs than
purchasing naïve animals and waiting
for facility acclimation.
David G. Serota, Ph.D., D.A.B.T., Director
of Toxicology commented, “We felt this
was an important service to offer our Sponsors
that need rapid study initiation at reasonable
costs. Many of our Sponsors have asked us
for a lower cost way to provide individual
pharmacokinetic screening studies. We can
now provide pharmacokinetic profiling services
to all Sponsors at reasonable costs. This
nicely complements the naïve primate
colony MPI Research maintains for rapid initiation
of primate toxicology studies. At MPI Research,
we understand the time and financial pressures
our Sponsors face. This is just one more
way we can help them bring their products
to market faster and more cost effectively.”
MPI Research exists to provide comprehensive
non-clinical research that meets the requirements
of pharmaceutical, medical device, animal
health and chemical companies as well as
governmental agencies as we partner together
to bring safer, healthier products to the
world. MPI Research employees specialize
in a wide variety of scientific disciplines
including toxicology, pharmacology, metabolism,
pathology, clinical pathology, reproductive
and developmental biology, veterinary science,
neuroscience, experimental therapeutics,
immunotoxicology, analytical chemistry, computer
science, regulatory science, and statistics.
